Naval General Service Medal for sale with clasp Algiers. The Naval General Service Medal awarded to John Hughes Lloyd, Volunteer 1st Class whilst serving on HMS Heron. Complete with ribbon. 

Condition report: The Naval General Service Medal is offered for sale in excellent condition, all detail remaining, and free from any dents or other damage (NEF). Clean appearance. Replacement ribbon.

Background to Lloyd: Born in 1803 to a distinguished Welsh family (with collateral descent back to king Henry VII). Lloyd joined the Royal Navy in 1815 as a Volunteer 1st Class. He took part in the Bombardment of Algiers, and later was on the HMS Euryalus, which was wrecked off the coast of the West Indies. Llloyd was promoted to Midshipman in 1820, and was a Masters Mate by 1824. By 1835 Lloyd is promoted to Lieutenant, and by 1840 is aboard the HMS Rodney at the coat of Syria. He put in for the Syria clasp, but this was not sanctioned. By 1863, Lloyd had been promoted to a Commander of the Royal Navy.
